Somatic Bodywork
& Dance Improvisation
Class in Louisville for Adults & Teens

Looking for a Somatic Bodywork & Dance Improvisation class in Louisville that helps you connect with your body, explore movement, and develop greater freedom and confidence?

At Ambo Dance Theatre, our Somatic Bodywork & Dance Improvisation class combines somatic practices with principles of Dance/Movement Therapy, Laban Movement Analysis (LMA), and Bartenieff (BF). Through body awareness, breath, sensation, touch-based practices, and dance improvisation, you'll have space to slow down, explore how you move, and discovery new possibilities in your body.

What Is Somatic Bodywork

& Dance Improvisation?

Somatic Bodywork & Dance Improvisation is an exploratory movement class that brings together somatic awareness, bodywork, partner exercies, and dance improvisation.

We begin by developing awareness through sensation, breath, weight, support, and natural movement. Somatic practices help you notice what is happening in your body and explore movement from a place of curiosity rather than expectation.

From there, our work naturally flows into dance improvisation, where we explore space, rhythm, connection, movement qualities, and individual expression.

Some practices may include touch or physical contact. All touch-based practices are optional and are guided by mutual consent, clear communication, and respect for individual expression.

There is no choreography and no need to move "correctly." Instead, the class invites you to listen to your body, follow your impulses, interact with others, and discover movement in the present moment.

Through this process, you can:

  • Release tension and accumulated stress in the body

  • Develop deeper body awareness and connection with yourself
  • Feel more open, free, and expressive in your movement
  • Build confidence improvising without choreography
  • Expand your movement vocabulary
  • Explore different movement qualities and possibilities
  • Develop awareness of connection and personal boundaries
  • Experience creativity, play, joy, and pleasure in movement

Every class offers an opportunity to slow down, tune in, and discovery something new about the way you move.
