Jesse Barfield
he/him
Tap Dance Instructor and Choreographer
Jesse Barfield obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with a Minor in Dance from Millikin University in Decatur, IL. While his cruise ship contract took him on a tour of the Caribbean Islands; he has performed in equity playhouses and entertainment venues across the US including in Branson, MO, Ann Arbor, MI, and Sullivan, IL. Locally, you may have seen him in various Derby Dinner Playhouse shows and on tour with Acting Out with the Jewish Community Center. Jesse has taught at The de Paul School as the Fine Arts teacher and Sacred Heart School for the Arts as the Assistant Artistic Director. Currently he teaches at Dancensation, runs his business, Talent World, LLC “improv-ing lives and opening minds,” and is coming on board to teach Tap classes for the Ambo Dance Theatre School’s 2022-2023 dance school year!

Jose Brooks

Jazz Instructor and Choreographer
Jose is a professional Moving Dance Artist. He has been dancing for 21 years, and took his first ballet and modern dance class at the age of 21 in Louisville, KY. He is a teacher, performer, choreographer, and entertainer. He has worked with Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships Entertainment Productions, auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance, and worked with many professional dance companies. Currently, he resides in Louisville, KY where he works as a freelance Dance Artist and teaches hip hop, jazz, contemporary, and many other styles in a variety of settings.

Bucio Grote

Ballet, Jazz, and Tap Instructor and Choreographer
Rachel Bucio Grote is from Louisville, Kentucky. Since age 3, she grew up studying Ballet, Jazz, and Tap dance. She stopped studying Tap dance at age 13, to pick up studying Ballroom and Latin dances, outside of Ballet & Jazz.

Since 2001, Rachel began teaching and choreographing for ages 2-12; as well as studying Modern dance, along with Classical & Contemporary Ballet. Gradually, her teaching and choreographing has extended to adolescents, adults, and dance outreach programs for all ages and abilities, inc. in schools, hospitals, nursing homes, swimming pool, ice skating rink for professional cross training.

Rachel has studied and worked with nationally and internationally recognized dance teachers and choreographers in different parts of the world (Kentucky, Colorado, Washington D.C., Paris & Concarneau, France; Oregon, NYC, & Mexico), including: Sally Baker Rothenburger, Leslie Robinson-Smith, Kacey Frazier, Katie Kasari, Amberly M. Simpson, Maggie Hoy, Pat Connelly, Ying Chang, Kathryn Altgelt with the Limon Dance Company, Gabriel Masson, Onye Ozuzu, Michelle Ellseworth, David Capps, Toby Hankin, Nada Diachenko, Erika Randall, AK Mullen, Emily Super, Karen Genoff-Campbell, Monte Black, Becky Dyer, Alicen Rule-Halquist, Christina Noel-Adcock, Diego Pinon, Carla Perlo, Meisha Bosma, Lesole Z. Rachel graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. During her almost 8 years in Colorado, she also taught, choreographed, and performed with Blue Moon Dance Company (Directed by Pat Connelly), and CU Touring Dance Company (Directed by David Capps). After May 2008, she continued her dance career from France to NYC, back to Louisville, KY where she worked for Ballet Arts Studio from July 2013-July 2017. Upon the closing of Ballet Arts Studio, she has chosen to carry on the spirit of Ballet Arts Studio (1969-2017). And to grow into new horizons by putting dreams into motion with teachers and students, starting with the Grand Opening Sept. 9, 2017 of establishing Horizons Dance Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky!

Rachel is grateful to be teaching Elementary school children for JCPS. She is also a Licensed Financial Professional / Referral Agent with Transformation Financial. She looks forward to continuing to develop a well-rounded, holistic school for dance & theatrical arts with music, and a center eventually with healing modalities.

JD Frost
they/she
Improv and Partnering Instructor and Choreographer
JD grew up training in Ballet and Tap from a young age and performing alongside her parents and sister in Opera and Musical. They trained in Theatre and Dance at Point Park University where they started directing and producing site specific and devised theatre. JD has spent time living in New York and Philadelphia, exploring Butoh, Contact Improv, Post-Modern, Improvisational dance, and Tap. She has performed and directed political and ritual theatre with the Carnival de Resistance and the Caravan Stage Company, a nomadic tallship theatre. JD has also directed five fully staged Operas and a film. Locally their choreography and movement direction has been seen in Afterculture Theatre’s Who Holds the Devil (Lexington, KY 2020).

Jacques Gatete

Intore African Dance Instructor and Choreographer
Jacques Gatete is from Rwanda. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky with his wife and newborn baby.
Jacques started dancing when he was a child. He grew up seeing his parents sing and dance. Dance was always part of his life. He received the opportunity to learn the dance deeply when he went to high school, where he met a professional dance teacher who taught him how to dance, and the meaning of the dance. After six years of high school life and dancing, he became one of the best dancers in the school. Jacques then started his dancing group, and he won national competitions in dance. Later, he was awarded to join The National Ballet of Rwanda called Urukerereza during Festpad ( Festivale Panafricaine de Dance in 2008).

Jacques continued to be selected in the National Ballet to represent Rwanda in different festivals outside of the country. He won different competitions with the National Ballet of Rwanda. In 2010, he continued his studies at the National University of Rwanda in the Faculty of Art and Sciences. During his university studies, he joined the Inyamibwa Cultural Group, which was one of the best Ballet groups at the university. During his time with that group, he participated in different competitions organized by the university where many universities came from East and West Africa to compete. One of the competitions was held at the Arts Azimunts International Arts Festival in Butare, Rwanda.

Jacques continued dancing alongside his studies, and performed in different events such as, weddings, and other shows. In 2012, he was recruited by Inganzo Ngari Cultural Group based in the capital city of Rwanda, Kigali, where he received the opportunity to join the best and number one team in the country. After graduating from his studies, he was privileged to teach dance at Agahozo Shalom Youth Village, where he became the founder of Imanzi Kwisi Hose Cultural Group based in the south province of Rwanda, Butare.
Jacques came to the USA in 2014, where he continued performing in weddings and other Rwandan cultural events. In 2019, he received the opportunity to teach Rwandan Traditional Dance at Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, where he taught teachers from different dance studios in Brooklyn during preparation of “Dance Africa Festival,” the biggest Festival organized by Brooklyn academy annually.

Jacques loves dancing, and he dances with passion and integrity. He would like to pass all of his skills to all people from different backgrounds. Dance without boarder!

Aubrey Hinkle
she/her
Hip Hop, Ballet, and Jazz Instructor and Choreographer
Aubrey Hinkle is a dance instructor who began her dance career through lyrical and jazz dance. In high school she was on the competitive hip hop and Pom teams as well part of the dance team Soljettes which performed competitive hip hop dance through the Midwest and East coast.
​
She had the opportunity to perform in NY for B.E.T blaze the stage. Aubrey has taught for Waterworks Dance Theatre, and Safiyyah Dance Company. She is now teaching at Ambo Dance Theatre, and Horizons Dance Theatre. She loves teaching children up through adult classes.
​
Aubrey is also a choreographer and performer for music videos and live performances. The stage is like her second home where all the magic of what she loves to do comes alive!
​
After high school, Aubrey took many jazz, hip hop, and contemporary dance classes and workshops. Since then she has performed for local artists, such as Asly Toro at the Latin Music Awards, been in dance video shoots, and a number of performances.

We are thrilled that Ms. Aubrey is sharing her passion and love of a number of dance styles, as well as teaching all ages with us!

Heather Moran
she/her
Contemporary Instructor and Choreographer
Heather Moran, a native of Louisville, KY, studied dance in Austin, TX where she fell in love with
Improvisation, Modern, and Contemporary dance styles. She performed choreography by Austin Artists,
as well as presented her own work at the 2014 Austin Raw Artists Event. She pioneered a fine arts
program for her church youth group which ran from 2016-2018. Heather choreographs competition pieces
for local dance studios, where she periodically teaches. She was a company member with Keen Dance
Theatre in 2021 and currently, Heather is an AMBO Dance Theatre company member as well as an
AMBO Academy Instructor.

Somalia Price

Ballet and Jazz Instructor and Choreographer
Somalia Price was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. At five years old she was introduced to the dancing world. Her first dance class was of course Ballet. Three years later, Somalia began Tap and then Hip-Hop that third year. When Somalia was in school, she joined every dance team the school had to offer. She has been studying Ballet, Jazz, inspirational dancing in church, Hip Hop in after school programs, Majorette stands, to learning African-dance skills. Somalia has always had the “Heart of a Dancer.” Somalia started to take class and studied under Lanita Joseph, who is known now as ” Sugar Brown,” in her early adult years. While being under her training, Somalia had the opportunity to not only learn about the dance styles Afro-Caribbean, Modern, Jazz, Majorette, and Burlesque dancing; she also started her teaching career as well. Somalia has a background in early childhood education. She absolutely loves teaching dance. The youngest child she has taught is two years old. Now, Somalia lives in Louisville, Kentucky. She is learning Latin dance styles, choreographing, performing, and growing as an educated dancer and teacher. She has performed in Americana Performance Benefit hosted by Horizons Dance Theatre. She has been in an eleven woman dance that was choreographed by Rachel Bucio Grote, and Katie Kasari, and performed at the third annual Louisville Dance Series performance on March 31, 2019 in the Eifler Theatre. She enjoys teaching children’s dance classes and looks forward to where and how her dance career continues to unfold in Louisville, KY, and wherever else it may take her.

Amberly M. Simpson

Modern, Improv, Partnering, Composition, Jumps and Turns, and Acro and Floor Work Instructor and Choreographer
Amberly M. Simpson is a Choreographer, Dancer, and Dance Educator/Advocate originally from Glendale, California. She specializes in Modern, Post-Modern, and Contemporary Dance forms, creating work that is often interdisciplinary in nature to provide commentary on social issues and the human condition. By day, she is the Dance Director and Musical Theatre Co-Director at Noe Middle School, but by night she serves as the Artistic Director of Ambo Dance Theatre. Amberly's work has been presented at venues such as the American Dance Festival, the Going Dutch Festival, the Midwest Regional Alternative Dance Festival, and Princeton Research Day where her collaboration with Dr. David Vartanyan received the Impact Award. In 2019, she was honored as one of the Hadley Creatives through the Community Foundation of Louisville, and in 2022 she worked alongside her Dance colleagues in the Jefferson County Public Schools to create the first ever All County Dance program for the state of Kentucky.

Gabe Scott

Latin Dance Forms Instructor
Born in Mazatlán, Mexico, Gabe Scott has been teaching for over 30 years. It all started in second grade, then he quickly developed an understanding of body mechanics.
At the age of 15, he moved to Mexico City where he began his formal training in dance with the Mexican School of Ballroom Dance, acquiring the title of principal dancer.
Tirelessly, he worked his way into many important dance companies such as Latin Tango (Argentine Tango), Tradiciones y Expresiones de Argentina (Malambo), Ballet Folclórico Mexicano (Mexican Folk Dance), Escuela de Danza Cuicoyan (Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theater), and several other independent companies where he had the opportunity to act and dance.
He has taken lessons from the best of the best, including Eddie Torres, Johnny Vazquez, Victor & Gaby, Fernando Sosa, and many others.
In 2002 he moved to New York City to continue his Salsa training and in 2006 he moved to the Kentuckiana area where he has been a pillar of the Salsa community. He has not only taught many of the dancers you see today, but many of the instructors as well.
Gabe is not only an amazing instructor but he also enjoys golfing, being a nurse and is Dj Dr. G I’m sure you have seeing him play your favorite salsa and bachata songs on the dance floor
