Butoh: Dance of Life and Death is a workshop series that will cover the basics of Butoh, an avant-garde, formless, improvisational dance that has its roots in Japan of the late 1950s. In Butoh, the internal experience of the dance is primary and often engages with imagery such as the natural environment, animal, or elementary energies. It can, therefore, range from extremely slow moving and subtle, to strenuous and frantic.  

The first session  in this workshop series will introduce basic techniques, exploring physicality and the issues of the Empty and Hanging Body, the Slow Walk. The second session will dive deeper into imagery-based improvisation focused on connected the energetic centers of the body ad creating phsyical-emotiona-conscious movement to explore nurturing or healthy healing stories.

Participants (age 13+) can register for individual sessions or both!
