The Precipitants present
All The Water That Will Ever Be
Is Right Now
August 25, 2023
6:30 & 8:30pm
All The Water That Will Ever Be Is Right Now is a collaborative tour between Dance Uprising (Ann Arbor, MI), Deno Dance Company (Lafayette, IN), and Ambo Dance Theatre (Louisville, KY). Together , the directors of these three companies form the artistic collective The Precipitants! In a time where water is at the forefront of critical discourse on climate change and equity, this show serves as a reminder of the role that water plays in our humanity, as well as the ways humanity interacts with water.

Alongside works from each of the participating companies, you can catch guest performances from local dance companies in each city!
Tonight's performance features work from Keen Dance Theatre (Louisville, KY) and Alex Bellocq (Lexington, KY)! The show is approximately one hour long and does not include an intermission.

PROGRAM NOTES:
We are all connected (and divided) through water. Rivers and oceans become borders and boundaries for states, cities, countries...We are here; they are there. Yet, water is one of the most essential elements of our survival, our evolution, our health, and our body composition. What are the consequences that exist in this contradiction?

PROGRAM NOTES:
This work examines the space race, and the recent human desire to find signs of life sustenance on other planets. Where our vast and unconquerable oceans once captivated the human imagination, recent decades have seen an increased interest in space. Where human existence depends substantially on water, The Precipitants explore the possibility of discovering this single life-sustaining substance in the unknown, away from our Mother Earth. As our climate crisis has continued to escalate, space exploration has increasingly and desperately searched for alternate planets that may be able to sustain our species, or, rather, sustain our lack of desire to slow down. Meanwhile we forget that our Earth has provided everything that we need in abundance. It begs the question of whether we, as a human species, have abandoned our mother planet in an over-zealous spirit of discovery and exploration of our universe.

MUSIC:
"Idea", "Sunset", and "Silence" by Kai Engel

PROGRAM NOTES:
“Wavelet” investigates both the movement dynamics of water and the elemental properties of water by exploring the unique tension of water's movement and how water relates to the external environment (i.e. cohesion, adhesion, etc.). Water’s surface tension and unique chemical bonds lead to the formation of ripples, droplets and the ability to occupy all negative space within reach. The dancers explore how water is both uniform and disorderly within one entity.

PROGRAM NOTES:
What began as a celebration of water’s beauty in natural landscapes grew into a reality check: Access to safe drinking water, economic disparities around water, and the realization that such a vital component of life is so entangled by politics has the cast of Dance Uprising ready to make a move. In this work, the dancers have drawn on the experiences of populations around our home state of Michigan regarding polluted groundwater (Ann Arbor), contaminated drinking water (Flint), leaking pipelines (Lake Huron), seeping waste (Detroit), and so much more.

"Mystique" is inspired by the mysteries of our deep blue sea. From tectonic plates, to the relationship of our moon and ocean tides, to creepy critters seldom seen, this piece celebrates the unconquerable vastness and depth of our oceans that lend to its beauty.

PROGRAM NOTES:
“Water Over White Stones” is choreographed by Amy, Amberly, and Nina, collaboratively. We started with shared prompts about the Wabash River and each contributed movement to this dance. The title is a translation of the word “Wabash,” a Native name for the river that separates Lafayette and West Lafayette, IN. “Iteration I” was the Dance Uprising chapter of this choreography, led by Amy Cadwallader; Iteration II is the Ambo Dance Theatre chapter of this choreography, led by Amberly M. Simpson; Iteration III will be created by The Precipitants collectively, and set on the dancers of Purdue University during a week-long residency from September 10-15. They Purdue Dancers will perform this work as part of the final stop of our tour!

PROGRAM NOTES:
There is a dark silliness to baring your soul to a small picture of another person on a tiny black rectangle. And yet, this is the only way that many people must communicate nowadays. Can an online persona truly take the place of talking, confessing, consoling, or baring your soul to another person? This piece depicts an odyssey of a person who wrestles with their own persona and the consequences of walking a path alone.
